One Dies in Graves County Christmas night collision


fatalcollisionkspgraphicDecember 25, 2016 at approximately 1955 hours, Mr. Ivan Sanchez, 18, and Mr. Jerardo Arellano, 16, both of Mayfield, KY occupied a Black 2011 Nissan Maxima traveling north bound on KY 131 in Symsonia, KY. While traveling north bound, Sanchez failed to negotiate a curve and the vehicle exited the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then crossed Lisa Lane eventually striking a tree and coming to final rest in a local resident’s yard.

Ivan Sanchez, the operator of the vehicle, was declared deceased at the scene by the Graves County Coroner. Jerardo Arellano, the front passenger of the vehicle, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Sky Line Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. According to family, the two occupants were cousins and going to a family gathering in Symsonia. The Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by Graves County Coroner’s Office, Graves County Sheriff’s Department, Mayfield Police Department, Mayfield Graves County Fire and EMS, Symsonia Fire Department, and Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation
