From the McCracken Co Sherrif’s Office: On October 4, 2017, at approximately 12:19 AM, deputies from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence on Misty Lane after a 911 call from that residence. The caller had stated that someone had shot the homeowner and then fled the area.
Deputy Trent Hardin arrived and began first aid to the victim who had a gunshot wound to his upper chest area. Mercy Regional Ambulance Service and the Hendron Fire Department also arrived and continued the emergency care for the victim.
Deputies and detectives began their investigation and soon learned of possible suspects. Detectives collected multiple items of evidence from the residence and the surrounding area.
At approximately 9:00 AM, deputies located a suspect at a Vasseur Avenue mobile home community. Jonthan Stephens was located outside his truck and transported to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies also recovered a pistol and ammunition from his truck.
Stephens, 33 years old of Paducah, KY, was interviewed by detectives and admitted to his involvement in the shooting. During this time, deputies and detectives were also actively looking for the two other suspects. Stephens was charged with Complicity to Assault 1st and lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
With the help of Kentucky State Police Intelligence, detectives were able to identify the other suspects and began learning more information regarding the suspects. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office assisted in locating the two other suspects, Caitlin Croft and Josh Spoonamore. They were both located in Marshall County, Kentucky.
Spoonamore, 26 years old of Paducah, KY, was arrested pursuant to unrelated warrants and then interviewed by detectives. During the interview, Spoonamore admitted to his involvement in the shooting. Spoonamore was charged with Complicity to Assault 1st and lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
Croft, 20 years old of Benton, KY, was re-interviewed by detectives on the morning of October 5, 2017 at the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department. She was eventually charged with Complicity to Assault 1st. She was also lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and more charges are possible. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State police intelligence.
