(Glendale, KY.) –Kentucky State Police Post 04 Troopers and Detectives apprehended two Grayson Co. murder suspects after an 11 minute pursuit this afternoon. On October 26, 2017 at approximately 8:00 A.M. EST, the Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office received information of a possible deceased person at 400 Morgantown Rd. in Caneyville. They responded to the scene and located the body of James L. Parks (39) at his residence. The Sheriff’s Office secured the scene and requested KSP Post 4 personnel to work the Death Investigation. KSP Detectives arrived at the residence shortly after 9:00 A.M. EST. After Detectives surveyed the scene the Death Investigation quickly turned into a Homicide Investigation.

From information gathered early during the investigation, two suspects were developed. Robert A. Carter (35) and Johnny Gene Haynes (21), both of Millwood, were sought for questioning and their information was disseminated by multiple media outlets to the public. Throughout the day KSP Post 4 personnel received numerous tips about these two suspects and their possible whereabouts. The suspects were also believed to be suspects in an armed bank robbery committed in Ohio County shortly after the murder in Grayson County.

At approximately 5:30 P.M. EST, KSP Post Commander Matt Johnson was able to locate the suspect vehicle in Ponderosa Trailer Park in Elizabethtown. The suspects jumped into a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and fled the scene. Troopers along with Elizabethtown Police Officers attempted to stop the vehicle as it drove erratically and at high speeds through Elizabethtown down Dixie Highway and onto 31W Bypass. The vehicle then entered the Western Kentucky Parkway Westbound towards Leitchfield reaching speeds of up to 130MPH. KSP Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle with tire deflation devices. The suspect vehicle attempted to avoid the devices and entered the median. It then continued Westbound in the Eastbound lanes of the Parkway at high speeds. The suspect vehicle exited the roadway through a fence line and entered a corn field. After driving through the cornfield, the vehicle entered onto KY. 222 towards Glendale, still driving in the opposite lane of travel. At this time, Captain Johnson utilized a legal intervention maneuver causing the suspects to lose control of the vehicle and stop. They were then taken into custody without further incident.

Robert A. Carter and Johnny G. Hayes were both charged with multiple offenses with more pending. The Murder Investigation and subsequent traffic charges due to the pursuit are all being investigated by KSP Post 4 Detectives and Troopers. KSP Post 4 was assisted by the Elizabethtown Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.
