Fatal Collision on US431 South in Muhlenberg County Claims life of Central City Resident

Dunmor, Ky. (Muhlenberg County) – On Monday, September 1, 2020, at approximately 4:39 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 2, Madisonville, was requested by the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department to investigate a fatal single-vehicle collision. The collision occured on US 431 South in the Dunmor community.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 17-year-old juvenile, of Drakesboro, Ky., was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Impala southbound on US 431 South, when for an unknown reason, he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle crossed the northbound lane of travel, exited the northbound shoulder, and struck multiple trees.

The front passenger in the vehicle, 21-year-old Shana Gates, of Central City, Ky., was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Muhlenberg County Coroner’s Office. The two rear passengers of the vehicle, both juveniles, were transported to Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital, via ambulance, for non-life-threatening injuries. The juvenile operator of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for possible serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing by KSP Accident Reconstructionist, Trooper Brian Graves.
